AMANDA HUGHEN

"I take forms abstracted from biology, architecture, geology, and astronomy and repeat the forms until they reach a critical mass, creating a release of energy, a transformative moment. The resulting image is ambiguous: it could be microscopic or gigantic, creation or destruction, collapse or expansion. It could be a galactic explosion, a flower being pollinated, cancer cells metastasizing, or infinite other transfigurations. I am interested in similar events that occur across seemingly diverse realms and taxonomies."
