Hilton Rochester

The story

Located just two blocks from the Mayo Clinic in downtown Rochester, this hotel project for Hilton Hotels & Resorts features a collection of modern artwork designed to heal and inspire.

The Mayo Clinic is the #1 rated medical institution in the United States with over 1 million patients annually and over 2 million visitors each year. Chicago Art Source was tasked to create a comprehensive art program for the hotel that would serve as the premier option for all Mayo Clinic patients, as well as visitors and conference attendees.

In partnership with Titan Development & Investments, Harbor Bay Real Estate Advisors and The Gettys Group, we developed an art approach that would both enhance and emphasize the design that was inspired by the architectural heritage of Southeastern Minnesota. Curated to provide balance to the health and wellness focus, the sensory experience evoked seasonal elements.

Upon entry in the lobby, guests are greeted by a 20-foot oil on canvas entitled, “Everlasting Hope” by Amy Donaldson. During the creation process Amy and her family’s home and studio was challenged by the Carr Fire in Redding California. Her neighborhood was directly impacted but her property was spared. Amy’s wish is that patients and families will feel the Divine love and know they are protected and not alone. Hope arises from ashes and God turns tragedy and pain into hope and healing. Check out the work in progress here.

Other public space work includes giclee on canvas inspired by the beauty of horizons by a Minnesota-based artist in the tech lounge, as well as another Minnesota artist who was commissioned to create a piece drawing on the calming nature of the sea for the pre-function meeting spaces areas.

For the 5th floor pre-function space, stone and resin sculptural installations in cream and gilded finishes evoke ripples of water. In the hallway corridor, giclee on paper works provide pops of color drawing on a sunrise.

As you enter the guestrooms, an effortlessly refined experience awaits after a day of travel, functions or time spent at the clinic. The rooms are both balanced and modern with a residential quality and a tranquil elegance. Contemporary gallery wrapped canvases serve as a modern view over the headboards, while colorful prints on styrene provide a pop of whimsy in the bathrooms. Enhanced suite artwork includes a diverse collection of prints and canvases inspired by lakes, reflections, trees and waves.
