SUSAN DAVIDOFF

These works are part of an ongoing exploration of structure in nature, and the overlay of systems we have developed for observing, mapping, and defining natural forms and phenomena. In these works, plant forms from the Davis Mountains and central Texas are layered with images of comets and cochineal, a natural pigment used in Mexico for hundreds of years. The use of the structural elements derived from natural forms reflects my interest in the concept of LI -- the Chinese idea of organic pattern, and more broadly, the order and construction of nature as a way to examine our perception, preconception and relationship with nature.
