"When I paint, I try to make accidents happen. I discipline myself to lose control. Randomness is my collaborator. Like what happens to ceramic glaze when it is out of sight in the kiln, or the way rust oxidizes, or leaves arrange themselves on the surface of a lake. By deepening my understanding of how paint works, I set up the conditions to let Nature take its course on the canvas. To me, a successful painting is one that looks like it was found, not made."
