THE Story

Designed by world-renowned architect Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang, the 101-story St. Regis tower comprises residences and a hotel and is the third-tallest building in Chicago. The Residences at The St. Regis Chicago are comprised of 393 condominiums for the ultimate luxury living experience complete with a resident only amenity floor.

Chicago Art Source was tapped to curate and install an art program that represented the building’s unique narrative for the two main lobbies of the residences, as well as the 47th amenity floor and the fifth-floor dog run area.

Through collaboration with Magellan Development and the interiors team of Hirsch-Bedner Associates, we concepted the art program with the design and architecture of the building itself as the inspiration. The exterior form of the building was derived from the geometry of the frustrum, while the interior palette spoke to the beauty of natural materials and crystals. The artwork needed to enhance and continue this visual narrative.

In addition to themes of abstracted nature, we also referenced the idea of connection and community highlighting the building’s locale as a downtown gateway between the parkland and the riverfront.

Chicago Art Source commissioned artists from around the nation including a purposeful mix of watercolors, oil paintings, mixed media sculptures and giclee prints on a variety of substrates including paper, canvas and aluminum dibond.

The final result is a comprehensive art experience that combines a variety of stakeholder interests while remaining true to the building’s visual story and the St. Regis brand. This marriage of sophisticated meets unique art serves as an inspirational backdrop for the building’s residents, while still honoring the aesthetic intent of the building.
